Communicative & Action-Oriented Language Teaching
MAISON PAPILLON follows a communicative and action-oriented approach, in line with the principles of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
The communicative approach places meaningful communication at the heart of language learning. Learners are encouraged to understand and produce authentic language, interact with others and develop the linguistic resources they need to communicate effectively in real-life situations.
The action-oriented approach takes this principle further. The learner is considered not simply as someone who learns a language, but as a social agent who uses the language to act, interact and accomplish meaningful tasks. Learning therefore takes place through realistic situations, collaborative activities, projects and communicative tasks connected to the learner’s personal, academic, professional and social life.
This perspective is at the heart of the CEFR, which organises language learning around reception, production, interaction and mediation, while encouraging autonomy and the ability to use language effectively in authentic contexts.

Why an action-oriented approach ?
A modern vision of language education
The teaching of languages has evolved considerably over the past decades. Contemporary language education increasingly focuses on what learners are able to do with a language, rather than solely on the knowledge they can demonstrate about that language.
The CEFR represents a major reference point in this evolution. Developed by the Council of Europe, it provides a common framework for describing language proficiency, designing curricula, developing teaching materials and assessing language skills. Its action-oriented perspective places the learner at the centre of authentic communication and social interaction.
The approach also reflects developments in contemporary language didactics, with increasing attention given to interaction, autonomy, mediation, plurilingualism, authentic tasks and learner agency. The CEFR Companion Volume further develops these dimensions, including mediation, online interaction and plurilingual and pluricultural competence.
